A small nation stands tall

Seychelles is today held up as an example of how to do things right. Boasting one of the fastest growing economies in Africa and a world-class environmental record, it’s hard to believe that just five years ago the country was on its knees, unable to repay debts and spending money it didn’t have.

Malta

A modern economy on an ancient crossroads

The island of Malta has carved out an enviable position for itself as a business and financial centre in the Mediterranean and these days is also an ever more popular holiday destination. Its history as a British colony means that there are still strong cultural and economic ties to the UK, but its membership of the EU and the euro mean that there are new opportunities for the country across the whole of the continent.

Trinidad & Tobago

Winds of change or just a calypso breeze?

The first female premier in its history was not the only change to come out of Trinidad & Tobago's elections last May. The change in government also signalled a new path for this Caribbean energy giant towards further growth in the oil and gas sector, as well as economic diversification and strengthened international relations. Meanwhile, planning continues for this March's Port of Spain carnival. Calypso time is coming!

Gibraltar

Recession proof?

Eliminating a 44-year-old preferential zero tax regime for international companies, Gibraltar has introduced a 10% low headline tax rate for all business – effectively more than halving previous local rates – and promises cuts in personal tax to fuel further growth.
